I can’t believe
I’m now halfway through my internship at Fort Ti. I’ve spent around 125 hours in the research
center, around 100 hours in the gallery, and around 45 hours in the soldier’s
barracks museum exhibits. I have
inventoried around 37 cubic foot boxes of records. My typed inventory for the records is 64
pages long, single spaced. I have
divided the records into 9 series with about a dozen subseries. I am currently at the stage where I am
starting to create finding aides and correcting my inventories so that they
reflect the re-organized boxes.
I have managed to
get out of Ti twice while I’ve been here.
Two weeks ago I went home for my sister’s high school graduation. It was a rather crazy weekend with her part
on Sunday. We had about a hundred people
show up over a 6 hour period, some folks stayed all day long. Friday and Saturday I helped out with
shopping, cleaning, and food prep. I did
manage to play a bit of badminton during the party and chatted with some of my
former teachers. Then this past weekend
I drove through the Adirondacks to go to Delta Lake
for three days. That was a real
break. Time to read, play cards, and sit
by the lake. It was nice. The King’s Brass had a concert Saturday night
and the seminars that I went to were good.
This week I had a
bit of an adventure at the Winter House.
When I got back from camp there was no hot water at all. But it has all been fixed now. I celebrated the Fourth in Ti. The pastor’s family had a cookout and a
decent number of people showed up. I
headed over right after I left the fort.
Their house is located in the perfect spot to see the fireworks. I stayed for several hours. It rained a bit but stopped pouring early
enough so that the fireworks could still go on.
The cloud cover and heavy air made the smoke hang around, but seeing the
afterimages was kind of cool. The
display was quite nice, and lasted 20-30 minutes total. I finally left their house around 11, once
all of the traffic had cleared out. So
many people were crammed into downtown Ti it took a while for everyone to
leave. I had a good evening of free
food and good company.
